The Best Metal Albums of 2013, As Chosen by Metal Musicians Themselves - Part IV

Every year, MetalSucks asks musicians from across the vast spectrum of the metalsphere (or, in a few cases, the almost-metalsphere) what their favorite albums of the year have been. Death metallers, thrash metallers, black metallers, stoners, grinders, and djenters alike graciously contributed lists to MS, and we’ll be running them in groups of four to five musicians at a time twice a day for the whole week.
Below, check out the fourth batch… we hope you enjoy seeing what some of metal’s heaviest hitters were into this year as much as we have!

Scott Hull, Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed
1. Weekend Nachos – Still
2. Gorguts – Colored Sands
3. Exhumed – Necrocracy

7. Doug Benson – Gateway Doug
8. Al Madrigal – Why Is The Rabbit Crying

10. Sex Prisoner – State Property
Trevor Strnad, The Black Dahlia Murder
1. Wormed – Exodromos
2. defeated sanity – Passages Into Deformity

4. Unhuman – Unhuman

Dave Davidson, Revocation

6. Vhol – Vhol
7. Wormed – Exodromos

7. Intronaut – Habitual Levitations
8. Author & Punsiher – Women & Children
9. Chelsea Wolfe – Pain Is Beauty
10. Cult Of Luna – Vertikal
Honorable mention: Emmure – I celebrate the entire catalogue yearly.
Will Putney, Fit For An Autopsy, Machine Shop
1. Incendiary – Cost Of Living
It’s like the perfect hardcore record. Brings me back to Indecision era NYHC, I love this style.
2. Nails – Abandon All Life
The first riff in “Wide Open Wound” is the heaviest thing I’ve heard all year. Record is absolutely crushing.
3. Stray From The Path – Anonymous
It’s Rage Against the Machine on steroids. Such a cool band, Drew’s one of my favorite frontmen.
4. Counterparts – The Difference Between Hell and Home
This is like a modern day Shai Hulud with more digestible songs. Very intense and rewarding album.
5. HRVRD – From The Bird’s Cage
Not a heavy release whatsoever, but this band is really fun and I love their songwriting approach.
6. Northlane – Singularity
A djent record with some substance. Northlane pushes the boundaries of the genre while writing cool songs and not getting caught up in all the math. Great album.
7. Sworn In – The Death Card
Super dark, moody album. Although I can hear the “youth” in it, it doesn’t really bother me, these kids are onto something.
8. KEN mode – Entrench
Uniquely heavy, A+ vocals, very tasteful sonics. This album is bad ass.
9. Letlive – The Blackest Beautiful
A refreshing breath of energy into a copycat scene. Letlive is a thing of their own, this record makes me feel like I just heard Glassjaw for the first time again.
10. Fit For An Autopsy – Hellbound
Shameless self-promotion, but I’m really proud of this record. It’s a combination of all the varying styles I like in aggressive music. Check it out along with all these albums.
